ABOUT
THE RIDE: This ride is especially good
in the spring and usually opens about two weeks
earlier than rides to the north. However, it can
be very muddy after it rains making the ride very
tough. The trail should not be used when it is in
this condition. During June, a variety of
wildflowers should be visible. In Cove Creek, you
will find a mixture of aspen trees, Douglas fir
and sage brush. There are two creek crossings on
this trail, one of which is dry in late summer. GETTING THERE:
Drive south five miles from Ketchum on State
Highway 75, then turn left (east) on East Fork
Road. Drive seven miles to Cove Creek Road and
park your car.
THE RIDE: Ride
along the dirt road for a distance of four miles,
climbing gradually as you go. You will cross a
creek called Big Witch Creek. About 200 yards
past this creek you should see a road that veers
to the right. Do not take this road, stay on the
main road. Approximately one half mile past this
intersection, the road becomes a trail and winds
over a ridge. One half mile past the summit, you
will pass some beaver ponds on your left. One
mile past the beaver ponds, the trail meets with
a two-track jeep trail. Turn right at this
intersection. After three quarters of a mile, the
jeep trail merges with Quigley/Baugh Creek Road.
To get back to Quigley, turn right. After a short
climb to Quigley Summit, the ride is all downhill
to Hailey. From Hailey, you can take the bike
path north to East Fork Road and back to your
car.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: Turn
right up the first canyon road (two miles past
the summit) as you descend from Quigley Summit.
Follow the road up and over a hill into the
Indian Creek drainage. Three miles later, you
should come to Indian Creek junction. Turn right
to climb out of the Indian Creek. Go two and one
quarter miles and turn right onto the old jeep
trail. This ride climbs a saddle quickly to the
top of Moran Creek. From the saddle, follow the
old logging road that brings you back to Cove
Creek. Turn left onto Cove Creek and ride back to
your car.
