It was a classic blue sky, sunshine, chilly Sun Valley day. Bald Mountain skiing was excellent on natural snow from the recent storm and because of it the groom was softer than usual and very enjoyable. Limelight and Warm springs were superb, but the best skiing I found was Mid-Greyhawk as Upper-and Lower-Greyhawk were closed because of the Lane Parrish race and the middle was empty of other skiers. It was great fun.
Nordic skiing is very good on all the trails that have been groomed since the last snowfall. Phone 578-9754 for the Blaine County grooming report and 622-2250 for Sun Valley's grooming report. The new snow in the backcountry is sitting on some weak layers. Good skiing is abundant, as is wind-blown and crusty skiing, and today's avalanche advisory suggests staying off and away from slopes steeper than 35 degrees. The avalanche danger is rated considerable.
